Photography, editing and education have permeated Susan O’Connor’s life. From her early days of trying to figure out how cameras worked, to teaching classes to a row of dolls, and asking her parents how to spell the name of everything in sight in French, English or both, she has been an information-seeker and leadership provider. The bilingual business name Solutions Communications preceded Susan O’Solutions, the nickname coined by colleagues to reflect her role in a range of workplace activities and challenges.
As a communications specialist for Canadian television networks, corporations, professional associations, government and small businesses, O’Connor has written, edited, photographed and produced countless types of print documents, websites, scripts, ads and events, both as manager and team member. Simultaneously, she’s had regular gigs reviewing restaurants, and listing clubs and weekend activities for radio and print media, along with late nights attending and photographing musical performances in North America and Europe.
The segue into adult education was part chance and part natural evolution when an opportunity arose to develop a communications course for freelancers at Toronto community college. Soon after, and on another front, O’Connor developed and delivered workshops to help internationally trained professionals market themselves to employers. Her work with corporate clients and college students in-class and individually continues online and in-person, along with photography.
